One of our first planned trips as a couple was to the neighboring valley isle, Maui. We literally booked the flight, grabbed our park passes online, rented out a jeep, and we were set… yep, that’s right… we hunkered down in the jeep every night during our stay! Some would say that Maui is just the bigger, greener version of Oahu, but it is much, much more than that. The road to Hana did not disappoint and peaceful beaches were perfection. It is honestly our favorite Hawaiian island. Although the cliffside drives could prove to be a bit daunting, the spectacular views of the mountains, ocean, and nature were exquisite. Out of all the things we did there our favorite thing was watching the sunrise at the Haleakala Summit. There, we went on beautiful hikes, camped out, learned about each of the craters, and even spotted the official state bird of Hawai’i, the nēnē. And our favorite part of Maui was NOT the western portion of Lahaina… It was actually the southern areas of Kihei and Wailea that captured our hearts! There, we met more locals who directed us to some pretty audacious and interesting local areas that included a “nude beach”. One day we’ll visit you again, Maui!
