Anxious Times Call for Productive Measures

When the reality of the COVID-19 outbreak became clear, the rules changed, panic emerged, and "social distancing" became the norm. With most people at home either without a job or working remotely, they're now exposed to a different environment in the very same place they call home. Some, much like me, have found it comforting; others have expressed their discomfort and anxieties feeling as though they are "stuck" or "trapped". I am here tonight, writing in the comfort of my home office to share some light in the midst of this darkness.


In these troubling times where we must be responsible by practicing social distancing remember the following:


- 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭.

The cure for this disease will take some time. Expect and prepare for anything that may come our way. But stay positive and know this too shall pass and will not be this way forever. TWENTY SEVEN suggests a few things to help with our anxious thoughts such as phoning a friend, listening to calming music, and simply drinking warm water.

- 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞.

At the beginning of my self quarantine I thought, "geez... I'm so limited as to how I can be productive now... and just when I was getting into the swing of things!" Just two weeks before, I had just published my first poetry book, my bar had reopened, and I was working on my new business with Bryce. I quickly found that this quarantine was a blessing in disguise. I actually had more time to be productive right here at home! I began to research and read more, I started working on my second book, and I had more time to learn and work on new personal projects! So read a book, craft, draw, brainstorm, journal, exercise, and just continue working on your ambitions. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean that you’re “stuck” and there’s “nothing” to do. You are right where you need to be.

- 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞.

Breathing is essential—we do it innately—yet we forget to do it mindfully. Take a breath. Ground yourself. Manifest positive intentions. Don't overthink your situation. Practicing mindful breathing and meditation is beneficial in a plethora of ways. We often times surround ourselves with so much noise that the mere thought of peace and quiet is deafening and uncomfortable. Take the time to appreciate your space and be present in this moment. Make peace within yourself so that you can create peace around you. Sometimes in the midst of a frustrating situation, all you need to do is breathe.
